This page is a new tangent under the Bob’s Brain: … blog, which is rarely added to these days. Basically, instead of writing thoughts on YouTube and Facebook posts’ comments, I thought I’d just put my thoughts together in one place.
Guiding Principles:
- The Declaration of Independence. A vision statement, of truths we hold to be self-evident. (At least the opening statements. The complaints against King George are situational, but do provide a list of things the government should NOT do: House soldiers in the community, terrorize citizens, levy taxes without the consent of the governed, etc.)
- The Preamble to the US Constitution. A mission statement, stating who (We, the People), what (form a more perfect union) (indicating that it is a work in progress), and why (to provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, etc.)
- The Constitution and Amendments. A project plan, which is revisited on a regular basis, and adapted from time to time IN ORDER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION. Thus the Bill of Rights was the first spelling out of what it meant to have a more perfect union, with the consent of the governed.
- Other important documents, from time to time, may be used as commentary which increases our understanding of the vision, mission, and project. A few come to mind: Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, his Second Inaugural speech, Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech. There may be others worthy of inclusion.
Definitions:
Independent: I am registered to vote as an Independent, having recently opted out of the Two Party system, which the current majority party is attempting to make into a single party system.
Conscientious: I follow my conscience, which will be evident in whatever political positions I may advocate, and, hopefully, in behaviors I exhibit or actions I take..
Conservative: I believe in the conservation of resources:
- Conserving Natural resources: I am in favor of clean air, clean water, setting aside a fair percentage of any landscape for green spaces, including wildlife corridors and wilderness areas from which humans would be restricted.
- Conserving Human Resources: I believe that an educated population is a valuable resource, and public education should be free to all who desire it. For those who can not fit into an academic environment, support should be provided, either for independent study, or vocational training. For those who complete high school, or college, and for those who drop out of the educational system, I think there should be universal mandatory community service, before any military service options.
- Conserving Fiscal resources: War should be avoided whenever possible. Money spent on munitions is wasted. Better it should be spent on education, health, healthcare, and infrastructure. Law enforcement and some military is a necessity, not a priority.
